Odisha's Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik, is set to mark a significant milestone as he lays the foundation stone for the long-awaited Bhubaneswar Metro project today. This much-anticipated initiative, announced during Odisha Diwas on April 1, 2023, received approval for its Detailed Project Report from the government.

With an estimated cost of Rs 6,255 crore, the Bhubaneswar Metro project stands as one of the largest investments in Odisha's infrastructure. Chief Minister Patnaik, emphasizing its importance, expressed his satisfaction in fulfilling yet another promise outlined in the 2019 manifesto. This mega project, spanning 26 km with 20 elevated stations in its first phase, aims to enhance public transportation and stimulate economic growth while fostering urban development in the region.

In his announcement, Patnaik highlighted the project's significance under the 5T initiative, focusing on teamwork, technology, transparency, timely completion, and subsequent transformation. He foresees the Bhubaneswar Metro adhering to world-class standards and being completed within the stipulated timeline.

To ensure the project's success, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was engaged as the turn-key consultant for the inaugural phase. The agreement, formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Corporation and DMRC, outlines a four-year completion period from the airport to Trishulia Square in Cuttack.

Patnaik expressed optimism that this flagship program would revolutionize the transportation landscape in Odisha's capital region, symbolizing the emergence of a new era for the state.
