Coronavirus is not sparing anyone, be it a common man or the ministers or the police officials; everyone is getting infected by the virus. Recently, Police personnel in Andhra Pradesh's East Godavari district investigating the Swamy temple chariot fire incident have been tested positive for coronavirus, an official statement released on Sunday said. "In the last 3-4 days, I, the Additional SP (admin), Razole Circle Inspector and others have tested positive," East Godavari's Superintendent of Police (SP) Adnan Nayeem Asmi informed a leading daily. Though infected, SP Adnan was quoted saying a leading daily, "I am asymptomatic, and taking care of myself at home."

Police officials speculate that they came in contact with the virus while controlling the protesters who had stooped on the temple village. Two of the protesters have also been tested positive. Following the chariot blaze, many protesters had descended on the temple village, leading to the arrest of 43 protestors. People came from nearby villages and even places as far away as Guntur, Kakinada, and Rajahmundry. To control the uncontrollable mob, police were constrained to be in close proximity to the protesters.

Already, the cops in East Godavari have been infected with infections even before the Antarvedi incident. SP Adnan said the district police department is stretched, with 800 personnel testing positive for coronavirus, with only 300 having recovered so far. To cope with policing demands, additional police forces from other districts and Andhra Pradesh Special Police and district special teams were deputed.
