Minister of Public Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan, expressed his excitement over this significant milestone, emphasizing the airline's remarkable journey from adversity to revival. He commented, "The upcoming event marks a very significant step in the resurgence of South African Airways. We look forward to the official relaunch of SAA, along with the introduction of its first intercontinental flight to São Paulo, Brazil."

During the event, the South African government plans to make a major announcement regarding the recommencement of SAA's direct flights to São Paulo, Brazil. This will undoubtedly be met with enthusiasm from travelers eager to explore this vibrant South American destination.

Earlier this year, SAA disclosed its plan to offer four weekly flights to São Paulo, with two departing from Cape Town and two from Johannesburg. Professor John Lamola, the Interim CEO of SAA, explained the rationale behind this strategic move, highlighting the thorough sustainability analysis that underpinned the decision.

"We are overjoyed to announce São Paulo as our first international destination since the airline successfully emerged from an intensive Business Rescue process and navigated through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 lockdown," Professor Lamola stated. "It also marks the return of our long-haul service out of Cape Town. The teams at SAA have been working diligently behind the scenes to prepare our operations for this eagerly anticipated route launch to South America. Our decision to commence the relaunch of our long-haul service with São Paulo was made after a rigorous analysis of the route's viability. Sustainability has been at the heart of SAA's approach since our restart."

The first flight to the enchanting South American country is slated to take off from Cape Town next Tuesday, with the Johannesburg flight following suit on November 6.
