Officials from the Election Commission of India (ECI) will meet with top Manipur officials on Wednesday to assess the state's preparedness for the state's upcoming Assembly elections. The meeting will take place over the internet (online). Representatives from Manipur's political parties will also be present at this crucial meeting.

Apart from examining election preparation, the ECI will assess the state's COVID condition.  Manipur reported the first Omicron case in the Northeast on December 29. Concerns about the Omicron variant of COPID-19 are growing in the Northeast, following the discovery of five Omicron cases in Meghalaya on Tuesday evening.

The ECI will also assess the state of COVID vaccination in Manipur.
