In the most recent incident, a fire broke out at an oil refinery in the eastern Siberian city of Angarsk at around 6:00 a.m. local time, according to officials.

According to Igor Kobzev, the governor of the Irkutsk region where the city is located, two people were killed and five others were injured, one of whom required hospitalisation.

He claimed on the messaging app Telegram that the fire was believed to have been caused by "gas contamination", citing the Ministry of Emergencies.

A criminal investigation into violations of industrial safety laws was launched by investigators.
