The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) has extended the contract of Olympic champion javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra's German coach Klaus Bartonietz till 2024. AFI confirmed on Sunday that Neeraj Chopra is set to continue practising with his coach Klaus Bartonietz as his contract has been extended to the Paris Games in 2024.

After winning historic gold at the Tokyo Olympics, Chopra has expressed his desire to continue training with the German 'biomechanical' expert. AFI has said, "We have bagged the services of Dr Klaus Bartonietz, coach of Olympic javelin throws gold medallist Neeraj Chopra till the 2024 Paris Games. According to reports, Bartonietz took over as Chopra's coach from compatriot and former world record-holder javelin thrower Uwe Hon during Neeraj Chopra's rehabilitation and recovery process after elbow surgery in 2018.

The AFI has also said that 400m coach Galina Bukharina will also take charge by the end of this year's Asian Games in Hangzhou, China. Under Bukharina's supervision, the men's 4x400m relay team of Mohammad Anas Yahia, Noah Nirmal Tom, Arokia Rajeev and Amoz Jacob set a new Asian record at the Tokyo Olympics.
