New Delhi: The demand for the implementation of a uniform civil code in the country has been going on for a long time, and some petitions related to it are also pending in the Supreme Court. The Central Government filed its affidavit on Tuesday (October 18) during the ongoing hearing in the Supreme Court, the highest court of the country regarding the Uniform Civil Code (UCC).
The central government has told the court in its affidavit that the PIL for uniform civil code (UCC) is not maintainable. At the same time, the central government also said that no direction can be given to Parliament to form a UCC. In its first affidavit filed in the apex court on behalf of the Law Ministry on uniform civil code, the Central government said that no direction can be given to Parliament to form a UCC. At the same time, the Centre opposed the plea seeking a uniform civil code.
The Central government also asked the Supreme Court to dismiss the PIL of petitioner Ashwini Upadhyay with a fine. It was also said by the Centre that extensive consultations are needed for the UCC. For this, the committee should be constituted and when it is constituted, it will be placed before the Law Commission of the country.
