Lucknow: A primary school teacher lost his life while four other teachers were reported missing after their boat capsized at Bhimkund Ganga Ghat in Meerut's Hastinapur area on Tuesday morning. 9 people on board the boat somehow saved their lives by swimming. Taking cognizance of the accident, CM Yogi Adityanath has asked the officers to provide relief on a war footing.
According to the report, people from Chandpur Bijnor side in the Hastinapur area were going from one side of the Ganga to the other with a boat. Suddenly, in the strong current of the Ganges, the boat hit the pillar of a bridge and started drowning. Around 15 people, including government employees and teachers, were present in the boat. According to eyewitnesses, nine people somehow saved their lives by swimming. Primary teacher Mahendra Pal lost his life in the accident. His body has been retrieved, while four people are still missing. Police and administration teams have reached the spot.
According to Mawana SDM, the rescue team has been put to work as soon as the accident was reported. A search is on for the missing persons. Meerut DM and several senior officials are deployed at the spot. At the same time, taking cognizance of the boat accident, CM Yogi has instructed the DM, high officials of the police, NDRF and SDRF team to reach the spot immediately and carry out relief and rescue work on a war footing.
