Chennai: A 54-year-old corona virus-infected person was killed late Wednesday night in Madurai district of Tamil Nadu. No other person except his family attended his last trip. Only his wife, son and two brothers joined at the time of burial. His body was buried in Melamdai cemetery.

The man, a resident of Anna Nagar, was declared dead on Wednesday night by Health Minister C Vijayabaskar. He was being treated at Government Rajaji Hospital (GRH). The Health Minister said that the deceased was already suffering from various diseases including diabetes, hypertension, breathlessness. The officials completed the hospital procedures and after that, his body was sent directly from the GRH to the cemetery at around 3.30 pm. Here the body was kept inside the vehicle till the work of digging the pit was completed. Apart from family members, a police team from Madhichiyam station was also present along with the body.

No medical team or sanitation officers were present during the burial. The burial was completed by 5 am. Meanwhile, all roads leading to the street were blocked by the district administration. All the people of all the 60 houses built on the road where the deceased's house was have been kept under observation. In addition, a street on either side of the special road has also been closed.
