The Supreme Court of India has on Monday amended the order for free examination of corona in all government and private labs. According to the revised order of the court, only poor people, economically weaker people, will have free corona examination in private labs. Private labs can charge a price fixed by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) (Rs 4500) from those who can pay. The Supreme Court has said in the revised order that the beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana are already getting the benefit of free check in private labs. The government can also bring other economically weaker categories under free scrutiny.

On this matter, the apex court has also amended the order and asked the government that apart from the beneficiaries of Ayushman Bharat, other people belonging to poor class like unorganized sector laborers and other categories of lower income group are also included in the benefit of free investigation. The government can issue appropriate guidelines regarding fee reimbursement in cases of free examination in private labs. The government should publicize this order and fixed guidelines so that the beneficiaries are aware of it.

Why corona figures of central and state governments are different?

This order was justified by Ashok Bhushan and S.K. Ravindra Bhat's bench gave after hearing a petition seeking amendment in the order of Delhi-based doctor Kaushal Kant Mishra. The petition said that the investigation of corona in private labs should be free only for the economically weaker sections. People who can give money should be taken from them. The petitioner said that freeing all the tests in private labs will not only increase the financial burden and will also prevent them from conducting private lab tests.
