Oppo Reno10 Pro Evaluation: Remarkable, yet Confronting Formidable Competition

The higher-end version of the Reno10 family, the Oppo Reno10 Pro, phone is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G chipset and is competing with other popular options like OnePlus, iQOO, and Samsung in its category. Let's see how well it compares.

Design: Much like its Plus variant, the new Oppo Reno10 Pro exudes a glossy and high-end aesthetic. While these two models share a semblance, disparities emerge in the form of the camera module and the omission of the MariSilicon lens in the latter.

Presented in two appealing color choices—Silvery Grey and Glossy Purple—we received the latter for evaluation. It dons a delicate pastel appearance, projecting an elegant and subtly refined visage. In terms of construction, the Reno10 Pro adheres to the conventional sandwich three-piece design. Its rear and front panels gracefully curve into the slender central frame, resulting in a seamless and visually captivating device that concurrently provides an enhanced grip. This frame amplifies the phone's premium tactile feel, albeit with a susceptibility to smudging.

An under-display optical fingerprint sensor graces the Reno10 Pro, impressively swift and precise. Positioned at the top, a secondary microphone and an IR blaster cater to remote functionality. On the right side, the slim yet discernible volume rocker and power button reside. Descending to the bottom reveals the dual Nano-SIM tray, primary microphone, and the practical USB Type-C port. While the device integrates a single bottom-firing speaker, the inclusion of a secondary stereo speaker would have been a welcome enhancement, especially considering the phone's pricing.

Display: The fresh Oppo Reno10 Pro 5G proudly presents a 6.7-inch FullHD+ AMOLED display boasting 1080x2412 pixel resolution. Boasting a 120Hz refresh rate, users can opt between 60Hz, 120Hz, or auto modes based on their preference. Radiating at a peak brightness of 950 nits, the screen remains visible even in bright outdoor settings. Fortified by a 10-bit panel, capable of reproducing over a billion colors, it mitigates color banding issues, ensuring a more vibrant and precise color depiction. Furthermore, the display possesses HDR10+ certification, delivering augmented dynamic range and an immersive visual encounter. However, it's worth noting the absence of Dolby Vision support, a feature that would have been appreciated.

Operating System: The new Reno10 Pro arrives pre-loaded with Android 13, accompanied by Oppo's sleek and user-friendly ColorOS 13.1 overlay. This synergistic pairing brings forth intelligent attributes, offering an enjoyable user journey. However, it's worth highlighting that the pre-installed Oppo applications come with redundant advertisements and notifications, mildly perturbing for new users.

Processing Power: The Oppo Reno10 Pro employs the octa-core Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset, fabricated using an efficient 6 nm-based node process. While not the latest processor available, its reliability and seamless performance are well-established across various smartphones. The Reno10 Pro couples this chipset with an ample 12GB LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB UFS 2.2 storage. Additionally, Oppo introduces RAM expansion technology, allowing a supplementary 12GB RAM boost. This distinctive feature amplifies multitasking capabilities, ensuring a smooth and lag-free user experience.

With Adreno 642L GPU support, casual gaming is effortlessly managed. However, from a competitive perspective, the gaming performance and value proposition are satisfactory but unremarkable. Games such as Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) run smoothly on HD graphics without significant frame rate drops. The gameplay experience is slightly elevated by a modest reduction in graphics settings.

Camera Capabilities: The phone showcases a triple-camera array on its rear, anchored by a 50MP Sony IMX890 primary camera featuring optical image stabilization (OIS). This sensor captures true-to-life hues and produces high-quality imagery. The camera demonstrates commendable dynamic range performance. In low-light conditions, the primary camera shines, yielding well-exposed shots with minimal noise, positioning it as a standout performer within this category.

The 8MP ultra-wide camera excels in capturing photos with sharp details. Notably, a 2X telephoto camera is incorporated—an unusual inclusion for this segment. This camera captures intricate details and boasts a respectable dynamic range, although its color temperature differs slightly from the primary camera, offering cooler tones.

Impressively, the Portrait mode exhibits robust edge detection, particularly when utilizing the telephoto camera. The telephoto lens excels in color reproduction, edge delineation, and detail retention. However, it's worth considering a slight shutter lag while capturing portrait mode images, necessitating a steady hand and a still subject for optimal results.

The 32MP front-facing camera adeptly reproduces accurate skin tones. Self-portraits in portrait mode also emerge captivatingly, with effective background separation.

Battery Life: Within its frame, the phone accommodates a substantial 4,600mAh battery, accompanied by an impressive 80W fast charging capability. With this battery capacity, the device offers commendable longevity, effortlessly enduring a full day's usage. Charging to full capacity takes approximately 35-40 minutes. To ensure secure charging, the smartphone integrates a SuperVOOC S Power Management Chip, instilling confidence during charging sessions.

Final Assessment: Priced at Rs.39,999, the Oppo Reno10 Pro delivers a comprehensive experience. The device distinguishes itself through its splendid display, potent camera system, and reliable battery endurance. While its performance is satisfactory for its price bracket, the market presents alternative choices that offer superior value in terms of processing power.
