Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala Assembly's opposition staged a walkout on Tuesday after Speaker M V Rajesh rejected a request for an adjournment motion to review the Lokayukta Amendment Act.
Sunny Joseph, a member of the opposition, moved for an adjournment to debate the recent revisions to the Lokayukta Act.
P Rajeev, the state's law minister, remarked in the Assembly, "The Lokayukta Act retains all of its powers. Similar measures in other states did not include Section 14 of the Lokayukta Amendment Act. As a result, it has been changed. The matter is under seal and cannot be addressed. Only at the time of the bill's presentation can an adjournment motion be made."
The Speaker denied the request, provoking the Opposition to conduct a walkout. VD Satheesan, the Leader of the Opposition, claims that four charges against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan are pending. They attempted to make big changes to the Lokayukta Act in order to preserve the Chief Minister's interests, according to Satheesan.
"The Chief Minister is worried, which is why the administration has proposed this change. Our issue is that there appears to be no mechanism in place in Kerala to combat corruption. The Governor was unable to address the House because he was not prepared "According to the Leader of the Opposition.
