Chennai:  The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued significant alerts for rainfall in the southern states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu. In Kerala, an orange alert has been raised for Pathanamthitta, Kozhikode, and Idukki districts, indicating an expectation of heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours. Simultaneously, a yellow alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Palakkad, Malappuram, and Wayanad districts, with the anticipation of substantial rainfall at isolated locations. The forecast also indicates the likelihood of light to moderate showers persisting in the state for the next 2-3 days.

In Tamil Nadu, the IMD has extended its forecast, signaling heavy downpours in various districts. The bulletin specifically points to the Nilgiris, Theni, Thenkasi, and Coimbatore districts, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected at isolated places. Additionally, Erode, Tiruppur, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Kanyakumari, Tirunelveli, and Thoothukudi districts are likely to experience heavy rains at isolated spots.

The ongoing and intense rainfall has resulted in instances of waterlogging, particularly in the Ghat areas of Tamil Nadu. Residents are strongly advised to exercise caution, avoiding unpaved roads and densely populated areas for their safety.
