Mumbai: The Bombay High Court, while hearing a case related to three youths involved in prostitution, has directed them to be released. The court, while hearing the body trade case related to the three women, said that any adult woman has every right to choose her profession. The court said that no adult woman can be kept in a reform house without taking her consent.
Justice Prithviraj Chavan said that the Immoral Trafficking Act of 1956 (Prevention of Unscrupulous Trade Act) is not intended to end body trade. There is no provision under this law that considers prostitution as a crime in itself or punishes a person related to prostitution. Under this law, sexual exploitation only for commercial purpose and indecent act in public place is considered punishable.
Judge Prithviraj Chavan of Bombay High Court has made it clear that under the Constitution, every person has every right to move from one place to another and live in the place of his choice. Saying this, Justice Chavan ordered the girls released from prostitution from the reform house.
