Ranchi: During the search of an oil tanker in East Singhbhum, Jharkhand, stuffed cows were found in it. In this tanker written Bharat Petroleum, 23 cows were sufficed. Two of these had also died. This modified oil tanker was going from Odisha to West Bengal. The police have arrested Sheikh Meraj, the driver of the tanker.

The video of this incident is also becoming increasingly viral on social media. After confiscating the tanker, the police handed over the live cows to the gaushala. East Singhbhum district police took this action on Tuesday (25 October). In the viral video, 2 people are trying to open the rear gate near the back stairs of the tanker. After opening the gate, a wooden chamber was found inside, which was taken out. After this, the cows inside are seen in an unconscious condition through the window-shaped windows made on the side of the tanker.

The matter is of police station area Baharagora. According to media reports, the number of tanker is OR 11 D 6838. It was caught by the police during a search being conducted near Jamsola. The driver, Sheikh Meraj, is a resident of Bhadrak in Odisha. During interrogation, he also named the owner of the tanker along with Sujit Mohanty alias Bada Babu, and Akshay Parika as associates. The police have registered an FIR against all of them including the driver. Jharkhand BJP leader Kunal Sarangi has alleged that cow smuggling has political protection from the Jharkhand government.
