After nearly 10 years of tireless efforts, India succeeded in declaring Pakistan-based terrorist organization Jaish-e-Muhammad leader Masood Azhar as a global terrorist by the United Nations Security Council in 2019. This underscores the importance of Indian leadership in the United Nations on the anti-terrorism front. India also led the whole world by moving forward on the issue of climate change and sustainable development. India's fight against terror and its commitment to bring terrorists to justice, will be remembered as the historic moments of 2019.

The attack on Jaish-e-Muhammad jawans of CRPF in Pulwama on 14 February had angered everyone and the international community also strongly condemned it. For the first time, 15 members of the powerful United Nations Security Council issued a statement. The said statement condemned the disgusting and dastardly suicide attack in Pulwama in a strong tone. 40 CRPF personnel were killed in this attack.

For your information, let us tell you that two months after this incident, India got a big success when the 1267 Al Qaeda Sanctions Committee of the Security Council banned Azhar on 1 May. China, a permanent member of the council, initially exercised the veto, imposing technical constraints, but China withdrew following the US, Britain and France resolutions. Syed Akbaruddin, India's permanent representative at the United Nations, said, "If we look back, this year has been a success for us. It has been a year when we have received the fruits of our years' efforts. After nearly a decade of efforts, we were able to put Masood Azhar in the list of terrorists.
