These days oversleeping is a big problem, not only in children but also in the new generation. Sleep needs can vary from person to person, but in general, experts recommend that healthy adults get an average of 7 to 9 hours per night of shuteye. If you regularly need more than 8 or 9 hours of sleep per night to feel rested, it might be a sign of an underlying problem but sleeping more than 9 hours is very dangerous and it also results in death.
Death: As per the reports, People who sleep more then 9 hours in night have significantly higher death rates than people sleeping seven to eight hours a night.  As oversleeping results in various health problems which directly affect your body and chances of dying increase. 

Weight Gain: One of the most common effects of oversleeping is Weight Gain.  A recent study showed that people who slept for nine or 10 hours every night were 21% more likely to become obese over a six-year period than were people who slept between seven and eight hours.
Body ache: Oversleeping results in various problem associated with pain in body. There was a time when doctors told people suffering from Back Pain to head straight to bed. But those days are long gone. You may not even need to curtail your regular exercise program when you are experiencing back pain.
Depression: You might be shocked by hearing this but not only undersleeping but also Oversleeping is considered a potential symptom of depression. While many people with depression report insomnia, about 15% tend to oversleep. A recent twin study also found that sleeping too little or too much seemed to increase the genetic heritability of depressive symptoms compared to normal sleepers.
Diabetes:  A study claimed that people who sleep more than 9 hours at night are more prone to diabetes. This probably stems from the fact that those who sleep more have longer hours of physical inactivity which may lead to increased glucose levels which trigger diabetes.
