New Delhi: Former Finance Minister and senior Congress leader P Chidambaram is in jail these days. He is behind bars in INX Media case. He turned 74 on his birthday. On this occasion, jail officials and some prisoners greeted him on his birthday. His son Karthi, wife's sister and a friend also met him. Jail officials said that Chidambaram did not make any specific demands on the occasion of his birthday. Prison officials congratulate the prisoners on their birthdays and accordingly Chidambaram was also congratulated.
Sources said that when he got out of his cell, some inmates also called him 'Happy Birthday'. In the morning his son Karti, his brother-in-law and some acquaintances came to meet him and congratulated him on his birthday. Karthi wrote to her father, 'You are 74 years old and any 56 !!! Can not stop you. ' His lawyer and senior Congress leader Kapil Sibal along with a team of lawyers arrived to meet him at the scheduled time for the meeting. Along with wishing him a happy birthday, he also discussed legal issues.
Many senior Congress leaders also tweeted and congratulated him on his birthday. On his birthday, Chidambaram's family tweeted on his behalf, 'My thoughts today are about the economy. Only one figure tells the whole story. The export growth rate in August was -6.05 percent. No country has achieved a GDP growth rate of eight percent without an export growth rate of 20 percent per year.
