New Delhi: Former Finance Minister P. Chidambaram, arrested in a money laundering case related to INX Media, told the apex court on Friday that he had lost five kilos of weight in the last 43 days in jail and he has fallen ill twice. Chidambaram demanded bail from the Supreme Court in the case and said that he had been given antibiotics after falling ill twice.

Chidambaram's lawyer Kapil Sibal told the bench of Justice R Bhanumati, Justice AS Bopanna and Justice Hrishikesh Roy that, "He had fallen ill once for five days and the second time for seven days during his 43 days in jail and Antibiotics were given. He told the court that "his weight has reduced from 73.5 kg to 68.5 kg".

According to the news agency PTI, Sibal said that winters are starting and in such a situation 74-year-old Chidambaram may have more health difficulties. He said that the CBI's arguments were based on false and baseless apprehensions that Chidambaram could influence the witnesses or manipulate the evidence. A heated argument between Sibal and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI, was also witnessed in the courtroom.
