Terrorist attack on mosque, 62 killed in bomb blast, many injured

Kabul: The number of people killed in a massive bomb blast in a mosque in Afghanistan's Nangarhar province has increased to 62, with around 60 others injured. Spokesperson of the Governor of Nangarhar province, Attaullah Khogyani, said that the blast took place at around 1.30 pm on Friday at a mosque located in the Jav Dera area of Haska Mayna district in Nangarhar province.

According to Tolo News, officials have said that the explosives were planted in the mosque and the blast took place at the time when people were offering Namaz. Afghanistan's President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai's spokesman, Sedik Siddiqui, has strongly condemned the incident, tweeting that Taliban militants are constantly targeting innocent people. No organization has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, but Taliban and Islamic State militants are active in eastern Afghanistan, especially in Nangarhar province.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid issued a statement strongly condemning the attack and said it was a serious crime. Nangarhar province public health department spokesperson Zaid Adil has said that out of the injured 23 people have been sent to Jalalabad for better treatment and the remaining are undergoing treatment at Haskamena District Hospital.
