Srinagar: Former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah and Mehbooba Mufti have been placed under house arrest under the Public Safety Act (PSA). Former Union Minister and veteran Congress leader P. Chidambaram have expressed displeasure over the action taken against Omar and Mehbooba. Tweeting on Friday, Chidambaram said that "I am surprised by the PSA imposed on both the leaders."
P. Chidambaram further said, "I am shocked by the brutal action of the Public Safety Act (PSA) against Omar Abdullah, Mehbooba Mufti, and others. Action against anyone without allegations is the worst step of democracy. When unjust laws are passed or are enforced, what option do people have except to protest peacefully?"
Attacking PM Narendra Modi, P. Chidambaram said, "PM Modi says that the protests will lead to chaos and the laws passed by the Parliament-Legislatures will have to be followed. He has forgotten the history and inspiring episodes of Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, and Nelson Mandela. Unjust laws should be opposed through peaceful resistance and civil disobedience. This is Satyagraha."
