The list of Padma Awards for this year was announced by the Indian government on Tuesday, January 25. Two people from Assam, in the northeastern state of India, have been included to the Padma Shri Award list.

The fact that two famous Assamese personalities will get the most prestigious Padma Shri Award in 2022 is a source of pride for the state. Shakuntala Choudhary of Assam has been picked for her commitment to social work for the welfare of society, according to the Padma Award list announced by the Centre on Tuesday.

Shakuntala Choudhary was earlier awarded the National Awards for Senior Citizens - Vayoshestha Samman by the Indian government in the year 2021.Miss Shakuntala is a well-known social worker in Assam who works as a supervisor at the Kasturba Ashram in Guwahati. She has made a significant contribution to the well-being and empowerment of women in the United States. Dhaneswar Engti of Assam's Karbi Anglong district is another notable figure who will win the Padma Shri Award in 2022. Dhaneswar Engti is a well-known lyricist and writer who has made significant contributions to the fields of Karbi music and literature.

Dhaneswar Engti has been chosen for the highest honour in the field of literature and education. Notably, the acclaimed author was previously honoured with the Kristinandan Literary Award in 2017. Meanwhile, Assam's Chief Minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma, took to Twitter to express his delight at the two distinguished figures' achievements and to congratulate them on their selection for the most prestigious prize. In a tweet, the chief minister stated that Dhaneswar Engti's contribution to Karbi music and writing will be remembered for decades.
