Prime Minister Narendra Modi pays homage at war memorial

New Delhi: On Republic Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tribute to the warriors who had made the ultimate sacrifice for the country at the National War Memorial. At a solemn ceremony, Modi was joined by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and the three service chiefs in paying respect.

The homage ceremony at the war memorial kicks off the Republic Day celebrations.

The prime minister was seen wearing a cap with the state flower of Uttarakhand, Brahmakamal, on it. Modi is known to use the flower whenever he prays at the Kedarnath shrine in Uttarakhand, according to official sources. He also donned a Manipur stole. On Wednesday, India celebrates its 73rd Republic Day.

The PM is accompanied by the Defense Minister, Rajnath Singh, Minister of State for Defense, Ajay Bhatt, Defense Secretary, Ajay Kumar, and the Chiefs of the Army's three wings, namely the Army, Air Force, and Navy. The procession at Rajpath commenced at 10:30 a.m., instead than 10 a.m., to provide for greater visibility of the march and flypast.
