Pune: Renowned Historian and writer of India Balwant Moreshwar Purandare passed away at the Dinanath Mangeshkar Memorial Hospital in Pune on Monday morning. He was 99 years old. According to the hospital administration, Purandare was admitted to the hospital on Saturday, November 13, 2021, after which he was put on a ventilator after the situation became serious. Since then, there has been no improvement in his condition.

It was reported that Baba Purandare had suddenly fallen into the bathroom in his house. It was only after which he was brought to the hospital. His loved ones across the country have expressed grief following reports of his demise.

Who was Baba Purandare? : Babasaheb Purandare was a popular historian-writer of the country as well as a great theatre artist. He is also known for his expertise in Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. Baba Purandare has written many books on Shivaji's life to his administration and forts of his time. In addition, he also directed a popular play on Chhatrapati's life and leadership style- Jaane Raja.
