Mumbai: Senior Shiv Sena leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Raut has targeted the central government for not awarding Bharat Ratna to freedom fighter Veer Savarkar and Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray. Shiv Sena leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday questioned the Padma Vibhushan award given to Samajwadi Party (SP) founder and former Chief Minister Mulayam Singh Yadav, saying that they gave the award to those who ordered firing at kar sevaks, but forgot Balasaheb, who played a key role in the Ayodhya movement.

Raut further said, 'Mulayam Singh Yadav was a big leader of the country, was the Defense Minister, was the CM for 3 times, was a big leader of the socialist movement, but we had differences with him. When the Ayodhya movement was going on, it was he who ordered firing on the kar sevaks. Mulayam had said that even if more kar sevaks were to be shot, he would not back down and would protect the Babri Masjid. After that BJP, Bajrang Dal, and VHP everyone demanded to register a case against Mulayam Singh. He didn't even hesitate to say that he is the murderer of Hindus.'

Indirectly questioning the award of Padma Vibhushan to Mulayam, Raut said, 'Today his own government has honored Mulayam with Padma Vibhushan, and I will not say anything on that. But if you respect Mulayam, then why didn't you give Bharat Ratna to Veer Savarkar? You forgot Balasaheb Thackeray who played a very important role in the Ayodhya movement. Honored the one who ordered firing at the kar sevaks, but you forgot Balasaheb Thackeray, who gave fuel to the Ayodhya movement.'
