Islamabad: The number of coronavirus cases in the country has increased to 89,249 on Friday after 4,896 new cases were found in Pakistan, while the number of deaths due to coronavirus has increased to 1,838. The National Health Service Ministry said that 68 patients lost their lives in the last 24 hours, while another 31,198 people have recovered. It was the third consecutive day when a record number of cases have been reported in Pakistan after the relaxation of lockdown.

33,536 cases have been reported in Sindh province, 33,144 in Punjab, 11,890 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, 5,582 in Baluchistan, 3,946 in Islamabad, 852 in Gilgit-Baltistan and 299 cases of corona infection in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The ministry said that the authorities have so far conducted 638,323 corona tests. Meanwhile, a senior diplomat at the US embassy has also been found to be corona infected. The matter came to light on Tuesday. The embassy spokesman said in a statement that the diplomat's name would not be revealed.

The spokesman said that the US State Department is responsible for the safety of its citizens. Despite the increase in cases, the two Houses of Parliament are scheduled to meet separately on Friday. Radio Pakistan reported that the session began this morning while the National Assembly would be held in the afternoon. At a meeting in the Parliament House in Islamabad, Speaker Senate Sadiq Sanjrani and Speaker National Assembly Asad Kaiser reviewed the arrangements made for two sessions. An uproar was also organized in Parliament House for the protection of MPs and staff.
