Islamabad: A Pakistani court has adjourned hearing on the government's plea to appoint a lawyer for Indian prisoner Kulbhushan Jadhav till October 5 at the request of the country's top law officer. In fact, Kulbhushan Jadhav is a retired officer of the Indian Navy. He was sentenced to death in April 2017 by a Pakistani military court on charges of espionage and terrorism.

Pakistan claims Jadhav was arrested from Balochistan in 2016 in a spying charge. On the other hand, India has rejected Pakistan's allegations and says Jadhav was kidnapped from Chabahar port. India had moved to the Hague-based ICJ against Pakistan's refusal to provide proper diplomatic access to Jadhav and to challenge his death sentence.

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) in its order in July 2019 said that Pakistan will have to "Effectively review and reconsider" Jadhav's conviction also allow India to contact him through diplomatic means without delay.
