Islamabad: Locust attacks are constantly increasing in Pakistan, on which the outbreak of locusts is being called a bigger threat than the corona epidemic. All the states of Pakistan are deeply troubled by the fear of these locusts. The government has found a new way to reduce this danger. The government is planning to convert locusts into organic manure with the help of people.
According to an official statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry of National Food Security and Research has proposed that by encouraging grass-roots collection through community cooperation to control grasshoppers at the grassroots level. Professionals from research, extension, education and civil society are also going to be involved in the work of composting. Later a compost is being made by mixing grasshoppers and other bio-waste materials. The aim of this project is to improve crop productivity by 10-15 percent. Apart from this, the goal is to reduce the use of chemical fertilizers by 25 percent, thereby improving soil fertility and soil health.
Organic farming is going to be promoted in Pakistan through this scheme. There is a possibility of food shortage due to locusts across the country. Earlier this year, the Pakistani government declared a national emergency on locusts after destroying large quantities of crops across the country.
