Islamabad: A priest has been shot dead by fundamentalists in Pakistan's Peshawar city. The name of the slain pastor is said to be William Siraj. At the same time, the second pastor was injured in the attack. The name of the injured pastor is Patrick Nayeem. They were both coming back from the church. Police are on the lookout for the accused. The incident took place on January 30 (Sunday).

According to media reports, both the deceased and the injured were priests of the Peshawar church. It is a group of Protestant churches, including Methodists and Anglicans. Both the pastors were in the car during the incident. During this time, they opened fire on them on the Ring Road in Peshawar. William Siraj died on the spot. Police are on the lookout for the accused on the basis of CCTV footage in the area. The cause of the murder is not yet known. So far, no organization has claimed responsibility for the attack. The deceased belonged to the Christian community. Following the attack, Azad Marshall, the senior-most bishop of the Protestant Church in Pakistan, has demanded that the safety of Christians in Pakistan be ensured. He has also sought justice from the Imran Khan government.

On March 15, 2015, terrorists attacked the Roman Catholic Church in Lahore. In September 2020, a Lahore court had sentenced Asif Parvez of the Christian community to death after holding him guilty of blasphemy.
