Islamabad: With votes counted in 49 percent of polling booths Pakistan was gripped by electoral anarchy on Thursday with the outcomes from its crucial general election deferred and major parties alleging obvious meddling, as cricketer turned politician Imran Khan appeared for victory, as AFP reported.

As Newspapers and television channels have been forecasting win for PTI since late Wednesday and Thursday half-done, informal results gave former Pakistan cricket team captain at least 120 seats so far in the National Assembly. Worth mention here a majority of 137 seats is needed to form a government.  

 Here are 8  key points -

1. Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) party led in 120 of the 272 National Assembly constituencies as, Pakistan's Dawn Newspaper reported.

2. According to the preliminary outcomes from polling stations available with the ECP, in Punjab, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz is at present holding its lead on 117 local seats but PTI is closing in with a lead on 102 seats.

4. Imran Khan's party is clearly course-plotting ahead in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa with a lead on 55 seats next to Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA), which is at this time leading on 7 seats. The preliminary results from Sindh show PPP-P leading on 60 seats, followed by PTI on 14 seats.

5. No party has been reelected two times from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa region. However, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s has become the only party to get this achievement twice.

6. In 2013, Imran Khan’s PTI appeared as the single largest party in the province with 48 seats.

7. In Balochistan, the Balochistan Awami Party (BAP) is leading on 10 regional seats, followed by the Balochistan National Party (BNP) on seven seats.

8. Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Mahesh Kumar Malani becomes first Hindu to win National Assembly seat from Tharparkar by defeating Arab Zakaullah in NA-222. He bagged 37,245 votes while the runner-up received 18,323 votes.
