Islamabad: Pakistan has started working towards granting counsellor access to Kulbhushan Jadhav after the United Nations Court ruled. The ministry's spokesman Mohammad Faisal told reporters that Jadhav will be given counsellor access. The process has already started. Faisal welcomed US President Donald Trump's desire to mediate on Kashmir. India immediately rejected Trump's proposal and termed the Kashmir dispute as a bilateral issue.

In addition, the next meeting on the Karatpur corridor, the spokesperson said, will be held soon. India on Thursday asked Pakistan to provide diplomatic contacts with Pakistan as soon as possible, following last week's decision of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in Kulbhushan Jadhav's case. External Affairs Ministry Spokesperson Raveesh Kumar said, India is in touch with Pakistani authorities on the issue.

Jadhav (49), a retired Indian Navy officer, was sentenced to death by a Pakistani court in April 2017 on charges of espionage and terrorism, after which India turned to the ICJ in The Hague (Netherlands). "The DECISION of the ICJ on this issue was in our favour," Raveesh said at a weekly media briefing. We expect Jadhav to get the full 'counsellor' (embassy contact) and get it soon. This was met under the decision of the ICJ and under the Vienna Convention. "We are in touch with Pak. They are in talks with them through diplomatic means in the matter. An External Affairs Ministry spokesperson said, India has conveyed its demands to Pakistan.
