Islamabad: The official price of wheat in Pakistan's Punjab province has been hiked to Rs 1,375 per mana (40 kg) and the official price of 20 kg of flour has been raised to Rs 808. According to a report by The Express Tribune, the official price rise of wheat and flour has been approved at a high-level meeting held at the Prime Minister's residence on Saturday.

According to the report, the new price may be formally approved by the Punjab Cabinet next week while the government will provide wheat at new rates to the flour mills after the Eid festival. Quoting sources, the report said that during the meeting, Punjab Industry Secretary was giving incredible figures in support of the proposal to price wheat at Rs 1,300 per month as he could not substantiate his claim that it would bring the price of bread and naan to one. The rupee will go up.

On the other hand, Punjab Chief Secretary Yusuf Nasim Khokhar says that the price of wheat is not correct at Rs 1,300 per mind as it will require a lot of grants and will also encourage smuggling, so there is a reasonable price of Rs 1,375 per mind. Officials present at the meeting were also informed that the open market is witnessing fluctuations in wheat prices between Rs 1,390 to Rs 1,430 per 40 kg, while the average price of flour is Rs 790 per 20kg.
