Cairo: 17 killed, 32 injured in blast in front of hospital blast

CAIRO: At least 17 people were killed and 32 others injured when a speeding vehicle collided with other vehicles in front of the National Cancer Institute in Cairo. An Egyptian minister has confirmed this. According to news agency AFE, Health Minister Hala Zayed said at a press conference On Sunday night that five of the injured are in critical condition.

He said, at least 54 injured persons have been admitted from Cancer Institute to other medical centres in the area for treatment. Zayed did not mention the cause of the blast on Sunday evening, though he mentioned that it happened in front of the hospital and not inside, as was initially reported.

According to the official news agency MENA, the blast took place when a speeding vehicle, which was running improperly on the road, hit other cars, causing fire and damage to the hospital. Several vehicles were engulfed in flames outside the hospital.  The Egyptian health official said authorities are searching for other bodies that may have fallen into the Nile, located on one side of the hospital.
