NEW DELHI: PDP MPs Nazir Ahmed Lawai and Mir Mohammad Fayaz protested after Home Minister Amit Shah in the Modi government on Monday moved a resolution to remove Section 370 in the Upper House. PDP MP Mir Fayaz tore up his kurta in the Rajya Sabha in protest. After which the Chairman ordered him to leave the House.

However, Ghulam Nabi Azad condemned the acts of PDP MPs in the strongest terms. Azad said, "We stood together in every pain of Kashmir and in India. We will sacrifice our lives to protect the Constitution, but we strongly condemn the act that burns the Constitution of India or tore copies of it."  The Centre on Monday moved a resolution to reconstitute Jammu and Kashmir in the Upper House. Union Home Minister Amit Shah introduced the bill in the House on Monday. According to the bill, Jammu and Kashmir will be divided into two parts.

While Jammu and Kashmir will remain a union territory, Ladakh will be the second union territory without the Assembly. He said the move has been taken in view of the threat of terrorism across the border. He said the people of Ladakh had been demanding for a long time to make it a Union Territory and the decision has been taken keeping in view the demands of the local people.
