ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged for the Islamic world to unite in aims to discuss Muslim problems and bring peace to the world.
Khan made the statements during his keynote speech at the 48th session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Council of Foreign Ministers, which began here on Tuesday, as per reports from Pakistan.
Global and regional landscapes, sustainable development, and climate change will be among the themes covered at the two-day session, which will be held under the theme "Building Partnerships for Unity, Justice, and Development," according to Pakistan's Foreign Ministry. In response to a question regarding Afghanistan, Khan stated that the country has been embroiled in a long-running conflict, and that assisting Afghanistan and lifting sanctions on the country is critical in preventing a humanitarian crisis and combating terrorism.
Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the OIC, spoke during the event and called for a joint effort by all OIC member states to address difficulties facing the Muslim population around the world. He emphasized that efforts should be made to bring stability to Afghanistan, and that Muslim countries should continue to provide financial assistance to the country.
