Pakistan reports 4,722 fresh Covid cases in one day, Test positivity ratio of 8.2

Pakistan on Wednesday alarmingly reported 4,722 new infections of COVID-19 after conducting 57,398 tests - a positivity ratio of 8.2 percent. Pakistan Planning Minister Asad Umar on Tuesday announced that the country had administered over one million doses of coronavirus vaccines in a single day over the past 24 hours, hailing the “amazing performance” by authorities in achieving this landmark.

National Command and Operation Center (NCOC), said that the country's overall confirmed cases reached 1,047,999, including 945,829 recoveries. The number of active cases rose to 78,595, including 3,858 critical patients. According to the NCOC, the pandemic killed 46 more people on Tuesday, taking the toll to 23,575. Pakistan's southern Sindh province is the most affected region with 389,699 infections, followed by the eastern Punjab province which reported 359,321 cases. There are currently 78,595 active cases of COVID-19 in the country, with the NCOC saying 3,858 of them require critical care.

In Pakistan-administered Kashmir, confirmed cases rose by 267 to 25,301 after administering 1,018 tests, a positivity ratio of 26.2 percent. There was 1 death and 162 recoveries in the past 24 hours, leaving 634 fatalities and 21,425 fully recovered. It now has 3,242 active cases of COVID-19.
