Pakistan wants to quadruple its hydroelectric share By 2028-29

ISLAMABAD (Pajhwok):  Pakistan's Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) has designed a plan to expand hydroelectric energy's contribution to the country's power supply from 9,406 megawatts (MW) to 20,591 MW by 2028-29, pakistan media said on Saturday.

According to the country's state news agency, the Associated Press of Pakistan, the hydropower would be added in two phases, according to Xinhua news , citing  local media.
The share of hydroelectric energy will be increased from 9,406 MW to 12,366 MW by 2025 in the first phase, and to 20,591 Mega watt in the second phase.

According to the report, hydroelectric energy accounts for 31% of the overall energy mix, with an annual electric power generation of 37 billion units.

Pakistan Water and Power Development Authority plans to add 17 billion units of low-cost hydroelectric energy to its electricity generation plan by 2025, bringing the total to 54 billion units, and another 27 billion units by 2028-29.
