Islamabad: A special court in Rawalpindi, Pakistan, granted interim bail on Tuesday to Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, in a graft case, according to reports.

Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated since August of the previous year, has faced several convictions ahead of the February general elections. However, a UN human rights working group declared on Monday that his imprisonment violated international law. media reported on X that the special accountability court had approved the interim bail for Bushra Bibi. Both Khan and his wife deny any wrongdoing related to allegations that they received financial assistance from a land developer for establishing Al Qadir University, an educational institution.

Despite the bail, Bushra Bibi remains in prison due to an additional sentence related to the ruling that her marriage to Khan was unlawful. Khan and his party contend that the charges against them are politically motivated, aimed at preventing his return to power. In recent developments, Pakistani courts have suspended Khan's sentences in two cases involving the illegal acquisition and sale of state gifts and have overturned his conviction for leaking state secrets. Khan continues to face numerous other legal challenges.
