His remarks, which mocked Hindu sentiments by invoking sacred symbols, drew criticism from various quarters.
Barkat was heard making derogatory comments about Hinduism while analyzing the match. He said, “They were supposed to lose against England. However, they performed magic and got away with it. At one point, it was confirmed that India would lose the game.” He then added, “I had even written that Gaumata could not save Indians today. Even if Lord Vishnu would have come to play directly, he could not have saved India from losing the match.”
