Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammed Ishtaye claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett's words opposing the creation of a Palestinian state are "an incitement to violence and proof of the Israeli government's anti-peace position."

Ishtaye made the comments in an official statement following the Palestinian Authority cabinet's weekly meeting in Ramallah, West Bank. Bennett remarked on January 28 that there will be no Oslo as long as he is Prime Minister of Israel, referring to the 1993 peace agreements between Israelis and Palestinians.

He also stated that he opposes the creation of a Palestinian state and that he would refuse to participate in any political negotiations that would lead to such a state.

In reaction, Ishtaye stated that Bennett's government "confirmed to us and the world the depth of extremism of Bennett's government and its policies opposed to peace and dialogue" by refusing to negotiate the establishment of a Palestinian state. He urged the United States and the European Union to intervene to put an end to Israel's East Jerusalem settlements.

Direct peace discussions between Israel and the Palestinians were suspended in 2014 because to disagreements over Israeli settlements and the creation of a Palestinian state on the 1967 boundaries.
