After an Israeli politician reopened his office, clashes between Palestinian locals and Israeli settlers erupted in East Jerusalem's Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood. Six Palestinians were arrested overnight during the violence, Israeli police said in a statement, according to media sources. Sunday's "riots," which included throwing stones and other items, harmed "several" persons who required medical treatment, according to police.

According to the statement, the police "dispersed the rioters after they failed to comply with the police request to end the incident." The fights were provoked by a statement by Itamar Ben Gvir, the head of the far-right Otzma Yehudit party, saying that he would create "a bureau" in the flashpoint neighbourhood.

Meanwhile, a driver from East Jerusalem was detained after hitting with a 20-year-old Jewish male in the area. Jewish rioters claimed the event was a nationalist car-ramming attack, according to state-owned Kan Bet Radio, although the suspect said he lost control of his vehicle after being attacked with pepper spray.

The injured, according to Israel's Magen David Adom, require hospital treatment. Another Jewish guy in his twenties was hit by a rock and sent to the hospital, according to the report. Ben Gvir came to Sheikh Jarrah on Sunday morning to open "the bureau," provoking more clashes. According to the police, at least two Palestinians have been detained.

In a statement, he stated that he plans to come to the office every day "to restore security to the (Jewish) people." Ben Gvir was photographed on social media sitting at a desk in an outdoor makeshift bureau. The office is outside the home of the Yeshoviev family, a Jewish family whose Sheikh Jarrah settler home was allegedly set on fire by Palestinians over the weekend. Sheikh Jarrah is in East Jerusalem, which Israel captured during the 1967 war.
