Afghanistan: On Sunday, the Taliban reacted to US President Joe Biden's plan to divide Afghanistan's frozen assets of USD 7 billion between 9/11 victims and humanitarian aid to Kabul. According to reports, Taliban nominee for the United Nations Suhail Shaheen stated that the reserve belonged entirely to the Afghan people.

"The reserve of the Da Afghanistan Bank (Afghanistan Central Bank) belongs to the Afghan people, not to governments or factions. It is only employed to carry out monetary policy, facilitate commerce, and strengthen the country's financial system "Shaheen's Twitter post may be seen here. He also stated that the funds were never used for anything other than the stated purposes, according to reports.

Regarding the USD 3.5 billion remaining locked in US banks, Shaheen stated that the freezing and disbursement of the funds for any other reason is an injustice to the Afghan people. US President Joe Biden announced on Friday that USD 7 billion in frozen Afghan assets will be split to pay humanitarian help in Afghanistan and recompense 9/11 victims.
