The Supreme Court gave four months time for the construction of the Sutlej Yamuna connectivity canal to the Central Government for reconciliation between Haryana and Punjab. This was given by the Supreme Court during the hearing on this matter on Tuesday. There has been a long-standing dispute between Punjab and Haryana over the SYL canal. Punjab is saying that there is no water in its place and is opposing this canal.

The matter was heard in the Supreme Court on Tuesday. At this time, Attorney General KK Venugopal urged the apex court bench of Justice Arun Mishra, MR Shah, and BR Gavai that the central government was trying to reconcile between the governments of the two states. Therefore, the Central Government should be given three months time for this. After this, the Supreme Court gave four months time to the central government. The Supreme Court asked the Central Government to settle this dispute by conciliation between the two states in this time period.

On Monday, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh met Union Water Power Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat in this matter. Earlier, the Chief Secretaries of both the states had two rounds of talks with the officials of the Union Ministry of Water Power, but no result came out of it.
