While political parties are preparing to crack down on each other for the December 1 GHMC elections, the biggest challenge and threat to the election process is the Covid-19 epidemic.

The poll percentage in the GHMC elections was never high, with the 2009 GHMC elections being 42.04 percent and the 2016 elections 45.09 percent. This time, election officials are very concerned about how the epidemic will affect the poll percentage. The State Election Commission (SEC) is making all arrangements to increase the poll percentage through various methods of residing welfare associations, celebrities and others. The Commission has formulated guidelines for elections keeping in mind the pandemic.

In many guidelines, it is mandatory for each person to wear a mask during each election-related activities. In the polling station or premises used for election purposes, sanitizers are made available. The social distance should be maintained as per the Covid guidelines of the State Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs.
