Assam Treaty: Panel submitted report to CM Sonowal

On Tuesday, a high-level committee on the implementation of Clause 6 of the Assam Treaty formally submitted its report to Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal. Judge (Retd) BK Sharma, chairman of the panel constituted by the Ministry of Home Affairs, submitted this report to the Chief Minister in the presence of the state cabinet.

The provision of the Assam Treaty deals with constitutional, legal and administrative protection (whichever is appropriate) to protect, preserve and promote the cultural, social, linguistic identity and heritage of six Assamese people.

Apart from this, Justice Sharma while giving the report in a sealed envelope said that the committee met many people all over Assam before preparing the report. State Finance Minister Hemant Vishwa Sharma told reporters that Sonowal will submit this report to Union Home Minister Amit Shah by Tuesday evening or by Wednesday. Other members of the committee were not present on the occasion.
