NEW DELHI: The ongoing monsoon session in Rajya Sabha, marked by continuous disruptions, took an unexpected turn when Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar playfully sought a 'Guru Dakshina' from Congress MP Deepender Singh Hooda. The lighthearted moment brought some relief to the tense atmosphere.
Dhankhar and Hooda share a special bond as Dhankhar was Hooda's guardian at Mayo College. Fondly reminiscing this connection, the Chairman humorously requested Hooda to buy a birthday gift for RJD MP Manoj Jha. As the House erupted in laughter and applause, Dhankhar extended birthday greetings to Venkataramana Rao Mopidevi (YSRCP) and Imran Pratapgarhi (Congress).
Speaking about the Guru Dakshina tradition, where students repay their teachers after completing education, Dhankhar revealed that Hooda's gesture would be his gift to Prof. Jha. With a witty reference to Jha's two daughters, Dhankhar playfully noted that he now belongs to the "daughters' club."
However, the jovial atmosphere was not without disruptions. When extending birthday greetings to Mopidevi, the House witnessed sloganeering from both ruling and opposition MPs over issues in Rajasthan and Manipur. Dhankhar expressed concern about the state of affairs, emphasizing the importance of maintaining order and decorum in the House.
Despite a brief adjournment, tensions escalated upon resuming the session, with the ruling party raising concerns about law and order in Rajasthan, while the opposition insisted on discussing the violence in Manipur.
In light of the situation, the proceedings were adjourned once more, and the House is scheduled to reconvene on August 7 at 11 AM.
