Hyderabad: The Election Commission recently asked all political parties to give their views on holding the bypolls by August 30. But TRS leaders feel that if the election is postponed, it will give the party enough time to consolidate its efforts to win the seat.
Several TRS leaders want the party leadership to persuade the Election Commission of India to postpone the by-election to the Huzurabad assembly constituency. According to sources, party leaders say that despite the announcement of schemes like Dalit Bandhu and other concessions, the party needs more time to get hold of the constituency. He says that former minister Eatala Rajender is definitely a strong candidate and cannot be dismissed so easily.
Recently, the state government had urged the Election Commission to postpone the election of MLC seats under MLAs quota, saying the state was not free from the COVID pandemic. A TRS leader said the party is likely to reiterate this in response to the letter from the Election Commission. The TRS leadership can point to the high number of cases being reported in Karimnagar on a daily basis to support its argument, party leaders are of the view.
