Pathankot: A special court is to give verdict on Monday in connection with the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl from Banjara community in Kathua, Jammu and Kashmir. The hearing in the closed room in the case that shocked the country was concluded on June 3. The District and Sessions judge, Tejvinder Singh, had declared that the verdict could be given on June 10.

Officials said Sunday that stringent security arrangements have been made in and around the court in view of the verdict pronounced in Kathua. He said the situation would be closely monitored. According to a 15-page chargesheet, an eight-year-old girl who was kidnapped on January 10 last year was taken hostage and raped at a village temple in Kathua district. She was kept unconscious for four days and was later murdered.

The hearing on a daily basis in the case began in the first week of June last year in the District and Sessions court in Pathankot in the neighbouring state of Punjab. The Apex court had ordered the case to be sent out of Jammu and Kashmir after which the case was referred to the Pathankot court, about 100 km from Jammu and 30 kms from Kathua.
