MUMBAI: Sanjay Raut, a Shiv Sena leader, has been detained by the Enforcement Directorate until August 4 in connection with Patra Chawl case.

After being detained here early this morning in connection with money laundering allegations connected to anomalies concerning the reconstruction of a chawl in Mumbai, ED brought Raut before a special sessions court earlier in the day.

Before being brought before the court, the Sena leader was sent to the JJ hospital for a medical examination.
The Shiv Sena leader was arrested early today after ED agents raided his home on Sunday and held him for several hours while questioning him.

Sanjay Raut's brother said yesterday, prior to his arrest: Sanjay Raut has been detained. BJP is afraid of him and got him arrested. They have not  given us any document regarding his arrest. He has been framed.

Another FIR was filed in the meantime in Mumbai against Sanjay Raut for allegedly threatening Swapna Patkar, the spouse of Sujit Patkar, who is thought to be a close aide to the Shiv Sena MP.

Sections 504,506 and 509 of the IPC were used to record the complaint at the Vakola police station. Raut is allegedly heard threatening Swapna Patkar in a viral audio clip. Notably, Swapna Patkar is a witness in the Patra Chawl land case, for which Raut was arrested on Sunday after the ED searched his home.

Sources said that ED officers raided Raut's home early on Sunday and confiscated Rs 11.50 lakhs in undeclared cash. Around seven in the morning on Sunday, ED sleuths launched the raid at Raut's home.

The Shiv Sena leader declared that he "won't be cowed down" shortly after being held by ED agents in connection with the Patra Chawl land scam case.
