There is disappointing news for employees eagerly waiting for the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission in Punjab. The state government has extended the term of the Sixth Pay Commission for six more months till December 31, 2020. After extending the Commission's term to December 31, 2019, last year, the State Government, in continuation of the notification issued on January 17, 2019, extended the term of the Sixth Punjab Pay Commission till June 30, 2020, by order of the Governor. Now once again, the Personal Policy-3 branch of the Department of the Government, by issuing notification, has extended the term of the Sixth Pay Commission till December 31, 2020, by the order of the Governor.
The Pay Commission was formed in February 2016 at the time of the Akali-BJP coalition government in Punjab. The government then formed a three-member panel of the Commission under the leadership of former Chief Secretary RS Mann, but only nine months passed in the appointment of its two members and both members were appointed in November 2016. After this, the commission could start its functioning, but the government changed in the state. Shortly after the new government took power under the leadership of Captain Amarinder Singh, RS Mann resigned as the Chairman of the Commission due to personal reasons.
Apart from this, Captain Sarkar handed over the command of the Commission to former Chief Secretary Jai Singh Gill and the Commission has started working. The special thing is that the tenure of the Commission for PayScale Revision Report has been extended continuously, whereas till now, from the 600, on behalf of various unions and other groups of state government employees, regarding the pay scale, allowances, pay-discrepancies and other issues before the Commission.
